A NEW $51 million tower is going up in West End by the same developers of two other recent residential developments in the area.
Turrisi Properties is building 'Bohemia' (render pictured) on Jane Street, down the road from its recent INK development, which will encompass 94 apartments priced between $385,000 to $859,000.
Construction is expected to be completed late 2017.
Turrisi Properties director Gaetano Turrisi says his business is focused on preserving the industrial history of the area through its development, which has been designed by Melbourne-based architects ROTHELOWMAN.
Including INK and Bohemia, there are 10 new apartment projects currently selling within a 5km radius at West End.
"The formerly industrial West End has seen extensive changes over the past 20 years with urban renewal, leading to particular demand for high-quality apartment developments such as Bohemia," Turrisi says.
"This development is particularly personal to West End, referencing elements of the character that have long attracted residents to call it home."
Bohemia will rise eight storeys, with one side of its exterior depicting the warehouses and factories of old West End with a jagged saw-tooth roof pattern. The adjacent façade will feature white timber panels to reference the timber and tin workers' cottages that once defined Brisbane.
The site is half a kilometre from the Boundary Street precinct.
Turrisi is expecting the development to attract a number of owner-occupiers, as per INK and The Glass Factory.
The fourth quarter 2015 Urbis Brisbane Apartment Insights Report showed that apartment sales climbed 50 per cent last year, setting a new record for the city.
West End residents have in recent times debated the increasing density of their suburb.
