Cyber attack on TPG Telecom cloud service sees two business customers affected

TPG Telecom's (ASX: TPG) cloud-based hosting service TrustedCloud has been compromised in a recent cyber incident that saw two business customers' data accessed.

The incident, disclosed today by the telco, was isolated to the cloud service which is hosted in a standalone environment separate from the company's telecommunications networks and other systems.

TrustedCloud (formerly called Wavenet) was acquired by the company in 2011 and uses legacy IT systems.

The company says the service was already in the process of being decommissioned and is scheduled to close at the end of August 2021, with only "a few" remaining customers still using TrustedCloud.

TPG says it has notified the two affected customers and relevant government authorities about the incident, and has engaged external cyber security experts to assist with management of the incident.

"The incident has not impacted customers from any of our other brands, products or services," says TPG.

"We have introduced measures to improve the security of TrustedCloud.

"Although we are confident this incident has not impacted our other environments, we have also increased the cyber security defences across our entire business."

Shares in TPG are down 2.08 per cent to $4.94 per share at 1.42pm AEST.
