THE evolution of the humble self-portrait has undergone a rapid transformation, first with the rise of the smart phone and then the addition of the selfie stick.
It's an obsession that shows no sign of waning, and now selfie-taking is about to take on a new evolution in the form of the AirSelfie.
The AirSelfie is a portable, pocket sized, flying drone camera, literally built to make taking selfies easier, and Telstra has announced it'll be selling the gadget in more than 65 Telstra stores around Australia.
The company which creates these tiny flying cameras, IOT (ASX: IOT) Group, has jumped in at the right time with the Telstra deal, following the news that Snapchat is looking to buy a US company making a similar flying selfie camera called the Hover Selfie Camera for a reported $200 million.
Executive Director of IOT Group, Ian Dufell, thinks these flying cameras are going to be a huge hit for the company.
"The major consumer electronics retailers view this emerging product sector as a key growth area for this Christmas sales season," says Dufell.
"The IOT Group believes it is well positioned to capitalise on this new category with the AirSelfie Camera."
IOT Group are in the business right now of making drone technology accessible to the hungry masses. Their other consumer ready product, the ROVA, is a lightweight, HD Camera ready drone, that sells for $400 which is a bit less than what's currently on the market.
Today's announcement from IOT about the Telstra deal has seen IOT shares skyrocket. Just before close of trade on Monday, they were trading at just $0.01, but up by 33.33 per cent.
