Tech Council partners with Austrade to help companies expand abroad

A new role connecting local tech companies with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission's (Austrade) services and global programs will be created through a partnership with the Tech Council of Australia (TCA), aimed at accelerating growth and international expansion for the sector.

The new partnership between the TCA and Austrade will support tech companies with advice, connections, and pathways to access global market opportunities, in a move the council's CEO says will help "scale the next Atlassian or Canva".

The partnership establishes a National TradeStart Adviser role to be embedded within the TCA team and working directly with tech companies across the country, also connecting them with Austrade’s Landing Pads located across the United States, United Kingdom, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

The job description is to specifically assist "critical and enabling" technology companies.

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with Austrade to help take more Australian tech companies global. This partnership is a huge step forward in supporting our Australian tech sector as it continues to grow and compete on the world stage," says TCA CEO Damian Kassabgi.

"TCA’s mission has always been to raise the profile of the Australian tech industry and showcase our world-class capability.

"Together with Austrade’s global resources, we can help scale the next Atlassian or Canva, and bring more investment and productivity growth to Australian shores."

Austrade CEO Dr Paul Grimes has welcomed the partnership and the establishment of a new national TradeStart role.

"This partnership reinforces our commitment to supporting Australian tech companies as they scale their businesses globally," Dr Grimes says.

"By working together with the TCA and Australia’s startups and scaleups, we can create even more opportunities for the sector to expand and thrive."
