Swyftx chief operating officer Jason Titman has been appointed CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange as co-founder Alex Harper steps aside to explore new opportunities.
The appointment is effective immediately, although Harper remains on the Swyftx board following the transition.
“There are many more things to do in and around our industry, and my ideas book has never been so full,” says Harper, who founded Swyftx with Angus Goldman in2018. Both were winners of the Brisbane Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2022.
“To allow myself the headspace and time to really be in my element as an entrepreneur and founder, I am honoured to announce that I am handing over the reins as CEO to Jason Titman.”
“This is a critical period for crypto, with a large amount of innovation sweeping through the sector.
“We’ve scaled extraordinarily quickly over the last four years due to our focus on customer experience and security. Jason’s experience will be critical during our next phase of growth and as we move into the regulated environment and expand globally.”
Harper says Titman had been advising him on Swyftx well before he officially joined the team as commercial director in April 2022.
“His contributions over the past year of operating Swyftx as COO have been pivotal in getting us through a bear market and securing a strong growth filled future,” he says.
Titman notes that the Brisbane-based Swyftx has become one of Australia's fastest growing fintech companies with close to 800,000 customers.
“It is a quintessential Australian success story, and I am honoured to lead its exceptionally talented team, as we navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, global expansion and reimagining a world where digital assets become increasingly merged with traditional finance,” he says.
“The pace of change in the digital-assets ecosystem is incredibly energising, and being part of a company that is revolutionising customer engagement with digital assets is nothing short of exhilarating.
“We are on the path to becoming a fully regulated financial services company, specialising in all types of digital assets and aiming to blend the worlds of DeFi and TradFi both in Australia and internationally.”
Despite stepping down as CEO, Harper plans to keep a handle on Swyftx operations following the leadership transition.
“As a founder and executive director of Swyftx, I will continue to maintain a significant role in all aspects of the company, while also looking forward to putting on my founder hat again and seeing where this next stage takes me,” he says.
