WANT a challenge for 2009 that will get you active and make you feel good? How about climbing Mount Everest to raise money for Queensland’s tiniest battlers? And the best part is you won’t have to travel to the Himalayas to do it.
Simply round up a team, approach friends, family or workmates to sponsor your trek, pull on your hiking boots and take on the Everest Virtual Challenge -a cyber walk-a-thon to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
It will raise funds for much needed medical research, and volunteer and entertainment services to brighten the lives of sick kids.
The challenge for each team is to walk a combined journey of 2.1 million steps – which is the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest – over a two-week period between March 23 and April 5.
For a team of 15 people, that’s only 10,000 steps per person per day.
Each team member will receive a pedometer to count their steps which they then log on the Everest Virtual Challenge website. The team’s total steps are then equated to a virtual route up Mount Everest. Prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraisers.
Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Karenlee Spillane said the Everest Challenge, which was being presented by Heritage Building Society, was a great team challenge that workmates, friends, sporting buddies and neighbours could conquer together.
