Dexus names Dap & Co for Naldham House fitout

Dexus Property Group (ASX: DXS) hopes to restore Brisbane's heritage-listed Naldham House to its former grandeur after enlisting Dap & Co. Hospitality Group for a refit.

The Eagle Street landmark, first built in the late 1870s, will be refurbished into a food and entertainment hub.

"Dap & Co. is thrilled to bring our next chapter to life within the walls of one of Brisbane's grandest and most gorgeous buildings," says Dap & Co. director Andrew Baturo.

"We are remaining tight lipped on the details of this project. As the cliché goes - watch this very beautiful space."

Formed in 2011 as a partnership between restaurateur Baturo and music industry and events heavyweights Paul Piticco and Denis Sheahan, Dap & Co. is the company behind the old-world watering hole The Gresham in Brisbane's CBD and South Bank restaurant Popolo Italian Kitchen and Bar.

Just a short walk from Naldham House, Dap & Co. also runs Walter's Steak House in the Old Mineral House on the corner of Edward and Alice Streets, overlooking the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.

With completion slated for 2022, the project will be in close proximity to the bustling Eagle Street Pier dining district, where Dexus is also planning a $2.1 billion redevelopment and recently sold the Gold Tower in April.

"We are proud to partner with Dap & Co. to reactivate the iconic Naldham House that has been restored to protect and respect its historical significance to the city," says Dexus head of retail leasing Eddie Giraldo.

Dexus acquired Naldham House in January 2016, then paying $14 million to Singaporean real estate billionaire Koh Wee Meng.

Prior to that, the building was owned by the Brisbane Polo Club, which operated it as a private club and conference venue from 1944 through to 2015.

First built as a shipping office, Naldham House was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in October 1992.

The origins of Brisbane's river trade are deeply entwined in the story of Naldham House. Built in the late 1870s as a shipping office, the building oversaw the arrival of cargo and rise of businesses that shaped the city.
