NEW BOSS AT BRONCOS

NEW BOSS AT BRONCOS

BRISBANE Broncos Limited (BBL) has appointed Anglo American Metallurgical Coal senior executive Paul White (pictured) as its new CEO.

White will replace outgoing CEO Bruno Cullen, who previously announced the new CEO would need to understand ‘footy culture’.

White has captained North Queensland and Central Queensland rugby league teams, while he was also staff coach at the Queensland Academy of Sport Emerging Origin Players program.

In addition to his experience in senior positions at Anglo American and Xstrata Zinc, he worked in the Queensland Police Service for 20 years.

There was speculation among the rugby league community that Gene Miles, former Bronco’s star and CEO of the Former Origin Greats organisation would take over from Cullen.

However chairman Daryl Sommerville, says the board is ‘pleased’ to have found someone with the rare combination of large corporation experience and a passion for rugby league.

“Paul’s background and experience make him an ideal person to fill the role as CEO of the WOW Brisbane Broncos. He has worked in senior corporate positions for many years. He has an MBA and also has a very successful rugby league career both as a player and a coach,” he says.

White will be hoping the Broncs can fare better next season than their 10th place finish in 2010. He will start on January 1 with an annual salary of $285,000 plus a $20,000 lump sum and potential bonuses.

BBL shares remain flat at 31 cents.
