HOTEL DUO FOR BRISBANE AIRPORT

A BIG brand hotelier has announced two big-ticket projects for the Brisbane Airport precinct as part of a job-boosting $150 million development.

Australia’s largest hotel operator, Accor, will develop a new Pullman and ibis hotel in the Domestic Terminal Precinct at Brisbane Airport.

Pullman will operate as a 5-star hotel and ibis hotel as a 3.5-star to accompany the adjoining Brisbane Airport Conference & Meeting Centre, with the opening date set for 1 November 2016.

Construction will commence on 1 February 2015 and produce 1000 jobs. Following this, the hotels will employ between 300 and 350 people.

Chief operating officer for Accor Pacific Simon McGrath says the project is a strategic step in the economic growth of Brisbane.

Brisbane Airport directly contributes approximately $3.3 billion to the Queensland economy.

“With passenger numbers through the international and domestic terminals in Brisbane expected grow to 38 million per year in the next 20 years, Accor is excited to be involved from the ground level in this forward thinking project which will strengthen the local tourism economy,” says McGrath.

“It reflects the broader vision behind Brisbane Airport’s master plan, while reinforcing Accor’s reputation as Australia’s leading and most accessible accommodation operator working across economy and midscale segments through to upscale and luxury markets.”

Pullman and ibis will add to the existing Novotel and ibis Budget hotels in the precinct, also operated by Accor, to cover the full spectrum of the hotel market from economy to upscale.

The Pullman brand is renowned for being an upmarket business stay across the Asia Pacific, positioning it as a prime candidate for Brisbane business events following its 2016 opening.

The 130-room hotel will host two presidential suites, 10 junior suites and 45 executive rooms, as well as luxury services including a top floor executive lounge and business centre.    

Conversely, the ibis Brisbane Airport will operate as the economy option, with the added drawcard of being attached to the 600-capacity 735 square-metre Brisbane Airport Conference & Meeting Centre.

The developments are owned by Brisbane-based Flynn Property Group and Scott Flynn Properties, which developed the Novotel Brisbane Airport Hotel in 2009.
