Cooking up a new market

JUNE 2010

GOURMET food franchise Pizza Capers is cooking up a new international market after launching its first international outlet in Singapore.

The Brisbane-based company’s revenue more than doubled last year, while co-founder Scott Geiszler says the franchise will be the first Australian-based pizza store in the business capital.

“We’re passionate about pizza and we know that there is strong demand for high quality pizzas in Singapore at a reasonable price,” he says.

“Consumers in South East Asia are just as time-pressed as those in Australia – everyone is looking for a delicious, healthy meal that is quick and convenient.

“Singapore is also a melting pot of cultures and the locals are used to eating a diverse range of food. There is a fascination with Western brands and culture, which is also in our favour.”

He says the company plans to open more stores in South East Asia with Singapore as the launching pad, while domestically it will open four stores each month.

“Opening four stores a month has been achieved through development and strengthening of people, systems and partners, as well as planning at financial and legal levels,” explains Geiszler.

“I believe our success is evidence that people want takeaway food that is not only affordable, but restaurant quality too.”
