BIG DAY OUT TO STAY ON THE GOLD COAST

THE Big Day Out (BDO) will stay on the Gold Coast for at least the next five years after the music festival secured Queensland Government support to find a new venue within the city.

The festival’s home of almost 20 years at the Gold Coast Parklands is being redeveloped for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and there was competition from rival cities to host the iconic event.

BDO chief executive Adam Zammit says he is relieved to have found a successful resolution to the problem.

“We hope to secure and announce a new location on the Gold Coast very soon,” he says.

Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey says BDO is a major event for the Gold Coast and attracts visitors from Queensland and interstate.

“I am very pleased to see it stay on the Gold Coast,” says Stuckey.

The BDO is held in January each year and has hosted some of the world’s biggest acts, including Nirvana, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine and the Foo Fighters.
