Airport of the year

GOLD Coast Airport has been named the 2010 Major Airport of the Year 2010 by the Australian Airports Association (AAA).

Chief operating officer Paul Donovan says the award signifies the ongoing growth of the airport and added services.

“To be held in such high esteem by the Australian aviation industry is very humbling and is the result of the hard work and commitment from our team of talented staff,” he says.

“We have enjoyed considerable success in recent years in terms of continual passenger growth and during the 2009/2010 financial year Gold Coast Airport welcomed a record of just over five million passengers.

“This is an achievement in itself considering the terminal was a construction site for the majority of the year, as we put the finishing touches to our $100 million terminal redevelopment.

“As the gateway to Australia’s premier tourist destination, we have worked hard to provide our passengers with an airport they deserve and this win, on a national level, is the realisation of that goal.”
