Cricketing icon Shane Warne has bowled yet another wicket this week, taking out a number of awards for his globally acclaimed gin at the 2021 Australian Gin Awards.

The sport legend’s SevenZeroEight 43 per cent Classic Dry Gin won gold for the second time running at the Awards, and has performed similarly well at other ceremonies in the past.

The signature gin took home the Gold Medal Award at the international consumer-judged 2020 SIP Awards, as well as silver medals at the 2020 World Gin Awards and 2020 London Spirits Competition.

Among the other accolades presented at the Australian Gin Awards, Warnie won silver for his unique mid-strength gin-like spirit SevenZeroEight 23 per cent LIGHT, and bronze for the SevenZeroEight RESERVE - a limited-edition shiraz barrel gin.

The taste of victory is even sweeter when paired with International Gin and Tonic Day, which is just around the corner on 19 October. Warne said that it was “a great honour to receive recognition by the industry's leading experts”.

“Our team in Western Australia strives for quality, consistency and sustainability with all our products in the collection,” Warne said.

“I could not be more proud of their achievements in this year's Australian Gin Awards”.

Among the products available from the distillery is a low alcohol line, which launched “low alc, low calorie, guilt-free” tinnies earlier this year. It’s a wise move, given that a recent study from drinks market analyst IWSR predicts significant growth in the sector, with the Australian no- and low-alcohol market slated to grow by 16 per cent from 2020 to 2024.

The study also shows that 71 per cent of Australian consumers intend to increase or maintain their no- or low-alcohol consumption next year, with 65 per cent saying they plan to explore new brands in the segment this year.

The SevenZeroEight title was inspired by Shane Warne’s record-breaking 708 test wickets in 145 test matches. Warne has kept involved with the world of cricket since retirement, launching a new kids’ program Cricket Star Academy in March of this year.

Shane Warne’s distillery made news in 2020 after halting the production of gin in order to produce hand sanitiser for two Western Australian hospitals.
